It's been reported to be over $1.3 million. It really makes him look like he has something to hide. What sane person would spend that kind of money on legal fees when they could make the challengers look really stupid by actually producing their birth certificate? I don't know the actual amount, but I suspect that he has spent around $0.00.





I do not believe there is any merit to the argument that Obama is not a natural born citizen, but I also know that he has intentionally prolonged the issue. If he wanted the issue closed, he could have released his birth certificate much earlier than he did.





McCain's eligibility to be president was challenged around the same time Obama's eligibility was challenged. The difference is that McCain released his birth certificate almost immediately. Obama could have done the same, but he delayed the release of his birth certificate, thereby fueling the accusations.





In the end, it doesn't matter. Obama is now the president.
Obama spent the $20 in 2007, got the perfectly legal Certificate of Live Birth from Hawaii, and posted it online in 2008. (The COLB is what Hawaii considers to be its Birth Certificate document.)





Before the election, most of the suits were related to the election. Those amounts were included in the many campaign legal services reported to the FEC. After the election, costs have been picked up by the taxpayer. Not only Obama has been sued. Defendants have also been Biden, McCain, Pelosi, Cheney, Rice, H. Clinton, the US Congress, Secretaries of State at the State level, and others. In one case, court costs were awarded to the Defendants and amounted to less than $1000.





You do realize that if a case made it to the point of evidence, the COLB from Hawaii would be accepted as legal and sufficient, and the burden would be on the other side to prove it wasn't.
About $1M thus far. As for fighting it, it's a matter of principle more than anything else. If Obama shows it straight away, it forever shifts the burden of proof from the plaintiff to the defendant should someone's birth certificate be challenged in court ever again (could be anyone, not just Obama). IMO, it should always remain on the plaintiff.





As such, Obama is not obligated to show anything; the plaintiff has to show a certified copy from another country first.

Powerful people always have attorneys on retainer to take care of numerous legal matters. This is probably some typical Fox made up half-truth, where they found Obama had paid X number of dollars to his attorney, then they lied and said it had something to do with these baseless cases that have ALL BEEN THROWN OUT OF COURT!!!
