Is it necessary to chill glasses before serving in all cases?

I know it's bad to chill glasses when serving beer, but I don't know about any other ones.Is it necessary to chill glasses before serving in all cases?
Cocktail glasses should be chilled by filling them with ice while you are mixing the drink in the shaker then dumping it out before pouring.

I can't think of any good reason to chill any other kind of glass. Wine and brandies needs to be served at the right temperature so chilling is bad. And highballs have ice in them so there is no much point. Is it necessary to chill glasses before serving in all cases?
