In MD, there were nearly 2.7 million cases heard in the District and Circuit Courts. Of those 2.7 million cases, 700 wound up before the state's highest court, the Court of Appeals. Of those 700 cases, less than 50 were argued and of those 50, probably 1/4 were reversed. Not many cases from the 50 Appeallate courts is heard by the US Supreme Court.
