If a student wants to become a lawyer, is it possible to only take certain types of cases?

I really enjoy the criminal justice system as well as the youth justice act. However property laws and divorce dont really spark my interest. Is it possible to be like, only one type of lawyer? If a student wants to become a lawyer, is it possible to only take certain types of cases?
In order to become an attorney you must pass an exam called the BAR, which analyzes your knowledge of all state laws which is critical to being a lawyer in the first place. If a student wants to become a lawyer, is it possible to only take certain types of cases?
When you become a lawyer, you can specialize in whatever interests you. When that day comes, make your specialty well known, especially when putting an ad in the Yellow Pages of your local phone book. Good luck!!!
When you go to law school you will most likely be required at a minimum to take the following classes. The ABA requires theses and I do not know of any school that is accredited that does not follow this rubric. Usually they are all complete in the First year of school.

Civil Procedure (the rules and procedures of the court system)

Torts (personal injury law)

Property Law (the laws regarding the rights of real and personal property)

Criminal Law (the state's authority to punish crimes)

Constitutional Law (the Constitution and its requirements)

Contracts (the binding exchange of promises)

Legal Writing and Research

Professional Responsibility or Legal Ethics.
You can take whatever cases you desire. My wife only takes cases dealing with family law (divorce, child support, and custody issues).
Yes. Most lawyers specialize. However you still have to take the standard curriculum: contracts, real estate, criminal law, constitutional law, etc that they teach at your law school.
Yes, almost all attorneys specialize in a particular field. I handle workers' compensation and employment law issues only, with an occasional car wreck or will for the fun of it.

Good luck my man! Go for your dreams. The law is very rewarding.
