We were discussing this in class the other day. Out of the thousands of kids that are abducted why do only a couple a year get national media attention? And what determines which ones get more media attention? Why do some child abduction cases get more national media attention than others?
the ones with family scandals seem to get the most attention, I suppose it's because the public enjoys watching drama and scandalsWhy do some child abduction cases get more national media attention than others?
The ones that involve claims of kidnapping by strangers are the ones that get the most attention. Elizabeth Smart was kidnapped out of her bed with her little sister as a witness. Kaylee Anthony's mother claimed she was kidnapped by a babysitter. Haleigh Cumming's was taken from her house in the middle of the night.
Kids that get abducted by family members rarely make the news. Kids that disappear with no evidence of foul play or no claims of kidnapping likewise rarely make the news. It has to be sensational in some way.
Why do some people ask certain questions and not real important questions? There only so much money media can invest in news coverage.
Since you were in my class the other day, I think I pointed out that the Police, FBI, and other agencies have a huge case load when it comes to missing children. You'd want the Media to share this burden all to themselves, why?
The children who typically get the attention are cute, white, female, and often come from from a wealthy family. Forget about getting the same sort of media attention if you're poor, ugly, older, male, and non-white.
While I have no proof it seems like the media just jumps on one and runs with it. Every child abduction is so terribly sad
MONEY
if you look at most of the cases that get all the attention it is because the family has money.
Because mainstream media is full of $h!+
